Thamaga gang murder: The scene where the old woman lost her life

The Station Commander for Thamaga Police, Superintendent Moses Makgoeng confirmed this.   “The seven appeared in court yesterday for a further remand, one suspect who is a minor has been released from police custody,” Makgoeng said.

He told Mmegi that whilst they are still on the look out for five others they have enforced security in and around Thamaga.  Thamaga has been prone to these gang’s vicious terrors for the past five years, in their latest stunt the horrific murder has left residents of Thamaga, particularly at the “ko kgosing ward”, shocked.

On Saturday night they struck again, the old woman died after sustaining injuries from stab wounds whilst her daughter, Thonoko Ramotuana sustained serious injuries after a group from the gang, which the villagers have since identified as the notorious Merubisi, raided their house.

When Mmegi arrived at the scene, there were visible patches of broken glasses, which were identified as those from the night of the attack. The survivors from the attack related to Mmegi their ordeal saying that they were lucky to survive. The granddaughter of the deceased related that “I was woken up by a big banging sound on the door of the next room where my aunt, Thonoko was sleeping and discovered that a group of men had invaded the house. She fought with them but I remained in my room as i feared for my own life. She was screaming but I was helpless and I thought they would come for me if I tried to alert the neighbours as there were many of them,” she said.Another survivor Maggy Monare (45) who lives directly behind the yard of the murder scene also related her encounter with the merciless gangs. She says that the men raided her yard breaking all windows in the five houses. Monare says that fortunately she was woken by the sounds of shattering glasses; she says she hid under her bed until the men left. “After they left I went to the murder scene, the deceased was lying in her pool of blood, whilst her grandson had run to the police station to report the incident,” she said.
