BNSC complains over financial transparency

Speaking at the council’s Ordinary General Meeting (OGM) on Thursday in Gaborone, Reikeletseng told affiliates that the secretariat will implement guidelines to try and curb the problem.
“As you would remember, we approved the financial code of conduct at the AGM in Kanye this year. There are also constant cases of internal conflicts.
As leaders, we might not necessarily find synergy with others all the time, but we have a duty to find common ground so that we do not compromise the very mandate that we have been given by our general membership,” Reikeletseng stated. He said at one stage, issues were arising from members without portfolios (commonly known as additional members).
At another time, it was a tussle between technical officials and their administrative colleagues. “Now a new trend of conflict is within the very core of leadership of affiliates; being presidents and secretary generals. I have six prominent examples as I speak, but I will not name them, instead I wish to call for calm, cooperation and concerted efforts from among yourselves,” he told the affiliates.
Reikeletseng said that funds for preparation for the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region V Under-20 games have now been availed by the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture.
By the time of the council’s AGM last July, P1 million has been spent in logistical preparations but activities were halted after the ministry delayed in releasing more funds.
“We had believed that by then we would have funding, but our ministry had not confirmed funding of the games,” Reikeletseng said.
He told the meeting that the ministry has since committed P4.8 million for the games to be held in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe from December 5-15. Botswana is sending a contingent of 149 from athletics, PASSOBO, basketball, boxing, football, netball, tennis, swimming and judo.
Reikeletseng said preparation camps for Team Botswana started on November 17 with the final camps in Francistown and Masunga starting from November 26. The official team send off is scheduled for December 1 in Francistown.
