Ghodrati family relinquishes BMC ownership

“The Ghodrati family may not be lost to football as our focus will be to run a football academy that will be named FC Rangers. We also remain as patrons of BMC FC,” Ghodrati said in a media statement.
The Ghodratis thanked the Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) chief executive officer, Akolang Tombale for having handed over the team to them at no cost in an effort to promote the community. “We are also happy that we have contributed positively in upbringing BMC FC to the state they are at present.”
Gilika is a former Gaborone United official. He was appointed BMC FC chairman at the beginning of September. Gilika confirmed to Mmegi Sport that he has taken over the team. However, he could not reveal his future plans.
The soccer club has been part of the (BMC) in Lobatse since the 1970s when it played in the lower divisions. In a bid to reduce costs, the ailing corporation decided that it was no longer viable to sponsor the club and Francistown based Premier League side, ECCO City Greens.
When BMC was handed over to the Ghodratis, a bitter ownership wrangle erupted with the former club committee. At some stage, the team faced suspension from the league due to the dispute.
At the end of last season, the Ghodrati family were reported to be eyeing another Lobatse side, Extension Gunners which commands a massive following.
There was talk that the directors were going to sell BMC once they had acquired Gunners.
But the deal between the two parties fell through.
At some stage, it was reported that BMC was going to merge with relegated Serowe side, Miscellaneous with the Ghodrati’s relinquishing ownership.
