Singing from the heart, Phuthego opened his performance with a voice laced with inspiration from South Africa’s Mzwaki Mbuli’s artistry, which submerged the audience in devotion.

The fully-packed conference room had music lovers in rapture right from the beginning of the performance as Phuthego took to the stage with a rendition of, Melodi Ya Lla, popularised by South African mbaqanga group, Mahlathini and Mahotella Queens.

Phuthego, a man who already has two poetry albums under his belt, serenaded the crowd, playing with words in Setswana.

“He has so much stamina and rigour in his performance and his band is just the cherry on top,” one of the guests at the dinner commented.

The talented musician transformed the ambience to weave in romantic fervour with some melodious songs including John Legend’s popular love song, All Of Me. His ode to women with this song kept the audience in rapt attention.

Since he embarked on a music career a few years ago, Phuthego has undoubtedly claimed his place in the hearts of music lovers.

He is gaining popularity and is known as a man of many talents, famous for his command of the Setswana language during his time at Btv anchoring the Setswana bulletin.

He has two rich poetic jazz albums released in 2012.

To put the icing on the cake, Phuthego bagged two BOMU awards for Best Newcomer and Best Folklore Artist.
