Addressing the media yesterday, the Director of Department of Tourism, Kelebone Maselesele noted that this partnership would help them deliver the task of accessing their services to Batswana at large. According to Maselesele, the partnership was implemented in August with training of BotswanaPost workers.

“This is a good initiative as we have only seven offices in the country while our clients are all over the country. We expect them to travel long distances to pay their monthly fees at their own expenses, which is in a way unfair.

With this agreement it will be a thing of the past, as they will conveniently access our services at BotswanaPost, which have about 125 post offices in Botswana,” she added. Further she explained that there will be some conditions of accessing these services as their clients are expected to provide a clearance letter from the Department of Tourism stating the amount that is supposed to be paid as well as a copy of their license and an identity card or passport.

On his part, Chief Executive Officer of BotswanaPost, Pele Moleta noted that this partnership is another milestone of becoming an icon of excellence as they have already collected about P250,000 in which Botswana Post gets 10 percent of every collection they make.

“Through our icon of excellence strategy 2011-2016, we seek to diversify our product and service offering through strategic partnerships hence this one today as it adds to our objective,”  he noted.

Moleta further dismissed suggestions that they have a lot on their hands as he explained that there is still a lot of capacity at Botswana Post, which is un-utilised. He also added that there couldn’t be any overload as everything is computerised these days.

“I have additional pressure of using this unutilised capacity as you might find that our offices in the rural areas can go for days without any customer showing up, but we still need to open there and partnerships like these ones,” he said.

Moleta also assured that in a month or so people should expect some more news from his office as they are currently working on some major mergers with the government departments.

For the past four years BotswanaPost enhanced its skills in third party funds collections for Department of Roads Transport and Safety (DRTS), Selebi-Phikwe Town Council, Ngwato Land Board. Through automation of their counters, they also offer prepaid electricity through partnerships with FNB Botswana, Barclays Bank, Be Mobile and Orange.
