The team has already participated in two tournaments in South Africa in preparations for the CAR tournament. Coach, Shine Seabe Gabatadiwe, told The Monitor Sport that the team leaned a lot from the tournament and expect the players to use the skills acquired when the CAR tournament takes place this month.

Botswana is in Pool A alongside South Africa, Madagascar, Tunisia, Zambia, and Senegal. Pool B has Kenya, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Nigeria, Namibia and Ivory Coast. The tournament brings together 12 top-ranked teams in Africa.

“We are in a difficult group but we intend to finish in a better position that will see us qualify for the All Africa Games next year and the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

We had invited an International Rugby Board (IRB) instructor from South Africa, Denver Wannies to equip the players with some techniques over the weekend,” he said.

He said playing against South Africa would not be easy because they are powerhouse. The players who have been selected are: Tshoganetso Katse (captain), Ketshidile Matenanga, Biki Mawela, Kagiso Molefi, Debula Omphile, Dent Patrick, James Chamuanga, Tefo Ramoroka, Alphius Mokotedi, Bafana Lekgobo, Bigboy Bushi and Emma Ntsinka.
