BIUST acting Vice Chancellor resigns

In an interview with Mmegi yesterday, spokesperson for the university Shakie Kebaswele confirmed that Professor Siginer resigned two days ago.

However Kebaswele could not divulge much information concerning reasons for Professor Siginer’s sudden resignation from a position he was appointed to barely a month after the resignation of Professor Inyang who cited external interference.

Kebaswele said he was not in a position to divulge further information on the resignation but said that Professor Siginer was still much part of the university.

“I can confirm that he has tendered his resignation as the acting Vice Chancellor but he still serves the university as the Deputy Vice Chancellor for the Academics” he said. This comes barely a few days after there were reports that the university’s management and the students were not happy with Professor Siginer and called for his resignation.

Kebaswele further confirmed that Professor John Cook has been appointed as the acting Vice Chancellor until further notice. Professor Cook is expected to hold the fort of the troubled university until the new Vice Chancellor is appointed, of which Kebaswele warned could take longer than anticipated.
