The scuffle resulted in one student writing his Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE) examinations from his hospital bed.

Two male students were involved in a fight last Wednesday, after one of them apparently made moves on his rival’s girlfriend. One the students sustained severe multiple injuries to his body.

The injured student was hospitalised at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital.

He was discharged over the weekend, reportedly sporting a neck brace and cracked teeth.

Yesterday, Central Police Commander, Superintendent Lebalang Maniki, said they had suspended investigations to allow the students to complete their examinations with little distraction.

“The injured student’s mother has made a request to us to keep our distance from the students so that they can finish their examinations with little disturbance,” he said.

For his part, Mater Spei head, Jabulani Monyere, told Mmegi that the injured student and his assailant were continuing with their BGCSE examinations.

“This is a sensitive subject. We are waiting for examinations to come to an end, before addressing this case,” he said.

Monyere confirmed that the injured student had written his examinations from hospital. He however noted that they had not met the students’ parents to discuss the matter.
