Rains stay away as T20 tourney starts

Four games were played in the north and south regions.

In the opening match played in the south, Ditlhase walloped Shining Stars by 10 wickets through a solid century stand between Akhlaq Raja and Sooraj Nair at the Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) Oval.

Shining Stars won the toss and elected to bat.

Ditlhase experienced bowlers Faaumy Mohd and spinner James Moses displayed some solid bowling in the first five overs that gave batsmen Rashaad Mosweu and Tharindu Perera a hard time to score runs.

Moses disabled the opening batsmen partnership in the fifth over when he bowled Perera for six runs to leave Ditlhase on 11 for one.

Inzimam Master came in to partner Mosweu who did not last long as he was bowled by Mohd for 13 off 20 balls.

Shining Stars batsmen Ogolotse Tshwene and Gape Mere tried to revive the sinking ship but Tshwene was bowled by Manu Michael in the 17th over when he had 23 runs from 30 deliveries making him the team’s highest scorer.

His successor Thatayaone Tshose did not last long as he was dismissed of the bowling of Manoj Monis.

All rounder Thabang Nshomane and Mere pushed the score past 100, but Ditlhase only needed 106 to win.

Ditlhase opening batsmen than laid into the Shining Stars bowlers to easily reach the target in the 10th over.  Shining Stars spinner Dhruv Maisuriya fought a lone battle but the two batsmen proved stronger.

Nair and Raja scored 60 and 40 runs respectively.

In other matches, Tladi hammered Southern Rocks by seven wickets.

BCA invitational XI lost by six wickets to Phikwe Cricket Club (PPC). Francistown Cricket Club (FCC) won by 20runs against Francistown Sports and Recreation (FSR).
