Ombudsman partners DMA to raise awareness

The purpose of the one-day event is to raise awareness about the role of the Ombudsman in society and its necessity in a democracy as well as get feedback from members of the public and appreciate their views on the office’s oversight role.  “The event is likely going to cost us close to P10,000.

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will fund this event and we wish we could find money to keep on sponsoring it.

“For now it is a once off event. It will be held on November 15 at the Institute of Development and Management (IDM), adjacent to the Botswana National Productivity Centre (BNPC) in Gaborone,” Principal Public Relations Officer for Ombudsman Fenny Letshwiti said.

Letshwiti said this was one of their communication strategies in order to reach out to the public.

He said two debates, one round for tertiary institutions and one for junior secondary schools and senior secondary schools students would be followed by a panel discussion involving members of the public present at the event.

DMA serves as the central organiser and coordinator of all debating activities in Botswana to ensure proper facilitation and professional running of debate events while the Ombudsman is tasked with the duty of investigating the administrative actions taken by public institutions or the officials of such institutions.
