The programme, which is aimed at improving the way employees approach work, and bring an effort of cultural change within an organisation, in the drive towards zero harm.

Sehunelo is expected to attend the Anglo American Applaud Award in London later this month.

“My General Manager was given a letter revealing that I had been selected as the finalist from both the Anglo American and Debswana Chief Executive Officer’s. I was excited that my hard work has been recognised and would have an impact on some people’s lives,” said Sehumelo, who is a Senior Manager: Safety and Sustainable development at Orapa, Letlhakane and Damtshaa Mines.

According to Sehunelo, the general manager submitted his name as the one person he believed drove excellence in their performance area.

“The Anglo America leaders came in to evaluate what had been submitted. This was followed by an elimination period, which had been divided into three stages. The whole process took four months to complete.”

“The quantum series is supported by three pillars, which are pride at work, system enhancement and commitment, as well as social impact. I wanted to raise awareness on issues of safety and ensure that the company doesn’t experience injuries due to environmental impact,“ he explained.

The quantum series, which has already been implemented at his workplace, is aimed at ensuring that employees are held accountable for their work and their systems sustained.

Anglo American created these awards in efforts to recognise and reward employees for driving excellence in their performance areas, with focus on core values such as safety, sustainability, partnership and innovation.

The awards were open to all Anglo American and Debswana employees only.  Anglo American owns 85 percent of De Beers, which in turn owns half of Debswana with the government of Botswana holding the other 50%.
