Imagine being on a date with that special celebrity you have long wanted to meet.  Having a chance to interact and ask all the unanswered questions about this star you admire and respect in small pool of celebrities this country has to offer.

Youth Matters Botswana, a Non-Governmental Organisation, will make this possible during the first Annual Charity Date Auction on November 8, 2014.

The lucky individual will have the opportunity to not only meet their favourite star but will spend time with him or her after placing the highest bid during the upcoming event.

During an interview with Showbiz, the chairperson of Youth Botswana Gugu Mavuma said that they came up with that initiative as a way of raising funds for the needy in the most rural parts of the country.

He said that after realising that there are some charity organisations that are in need of funds and are beyond reach, their organisation decided to come up with an exciting initiative that would attract multitudes.

He said that even though they have not yet identified which charity organisation to sponsor, they are working with different regional committees to assist them identify those organisations or individuals with the most need.  “In this event, only 250 tickets would be sold.  A person with the highest bid would be given an opportunity to choose a celebrity a line-up of those who have shown interest in this initiative,” he added.

He said that the highest bidder would take the celebrity of their choice on a date.

However, he pointed out that terms and conditions would be applied for security reasons.  “Everything would be publicised and we would be strict.  We won’t allow bidders to take their date to places apart from the one we have selected. They would have the date at Cresta Lodge Gaborone where we would also be present. We also will not allow them to exchange numbers,” he added.

The winner would be allowed to dine with and take pictures of their idol.  Some of the stars who are up for auction are Shirley Keoagile, Selwana Kesebonye, Rosinah Phumaphi, Pelonomi Petlwana, Mike Klinck, UDC president Duma Boko, Ndaba Gaolathe, Haskins Nkaigwa, King Tux, Bronia Matshwane, Bonnie, renown artist Wilson Ngoni, Lizibo, Sonny Serite, Benson Phuthego and many other celebrities. The event would also have a fashion show where KeNo Design The Cut Collection would be showcased.  Singers Punah Gabasiane, Mosako and others will entertain the audience.  Mavuma added that his organisation has been engaged in many young empowerment projects such as the Big Brother, Big Sister campaign.

“This is an anti-bullying campaign. Here we identify a child who is considered a bully and give them either a sister or brother who had volunteered to take care of such a child.  That big brother or sister can take such a child from school and also involve them in other activities that would keep them busy,” he said.

He added that bullies also have problems at their homes that may be why such children turn to tormenting their peers at school. He said that such children needed to be given love and guidance. Tickets cost P200 and the event will commence at 7pm.
