Dambe�s poor form worries Stars coach

Dambe has played eight of the club’s 14 matches this season and conceded 10 goals. Six of the games were in the ABSA Premiership with one in the MTN8 Cup and the other in a Telkom Knockout first leg clash against Kaizer Chiefs.
Freese benched Dambe for Sunday’s second leg tie against Chiefs which Stars won to set up a semi-final clash against Mamelodi Sundowns.
“If you look at the games he (Dambe) has played and the goals he has conceded, I have got to sit down and find out what is happening,” Freese told Mmegi Sport.
“I am not sure if it is his (Dambe’s) problem or it is the defence. I have got problems. We need to find out what we are not doing right.” Stars have picked a mere two points out of a possible 18 in their last six league games. The club signed Botswana’s number one goalkeeper, Dambe two seasons ago from Township Rollers.
He has played second fiddle to Siyabonga Mpontshane but seemed to have wrestled the Stars number one jersey after starting over half of this season’s games.
But after sitting it out on Saturday, Dambe still needs to convince Freese he is his best goalkeeper.
The man who signed him, Calvin Johnson speaks highly of the player and believes he has a bright future. He, however, suggests the Zebras’ custodian needs to put on a bit of weight to become an imposing figure between the sticks.
“He is a good professional player. He is still a youngster and I do not agree with claims that he is doing badly. He can use the left and right foot. He also reads the game well.
His only challenge is that he is a bit on the thin side and needs to bulk up a bit. That has always been a concern for me,” the former Stars coach said.
Meanwhile, Freese said former FC Satmos striker, Patrick Kaunda was still struggling to find his feet in the ABSA Premiership. Kaunda moved to South Africa after clinching the Green Boot Award in Botswana with 20 goals, but has only started one game for his new club. He is yet to score.
