The ruling party will however be proud that they vanquished the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) in the Francistown South, Chobe and Ngami constituencies. They also defeated the UDC in its stronghold of Lobatse where the UDC chairman Nehemia Modubule fell.

The general elections this year also sees the ruling Party, the Botswana Democratic Party failing to reach the 40+ mark in parliament as the combined opposition the United Democratic Change amassed 17 seats, while a weakened Botswana Congress Party (BCP) added the other three.

The ruling party finished the elections with 37 seats, eight less than the 45 the won in the 2009 general elections.
