The two members who are aged between 39 and 40 were taken in for questioning on Friday during voting time. This was confirmed by Old Naledi station commander, superintendent King Tshebo.  “The two men are helping us with investigations. Some of the cards had voted while others had not. I cannot disclose  how many were used and the ones that were not. IEC is the one which has more details on the matter and is best you talk to them,” Tshebo said.  He however refused to state, which party belong to but The Monitor managed to establish that they are BDP members.

On Friday, IEC spokesperson Osupile Maroba said it is not allowed that a person should have other people’s voter registration cards unless they have an agreement.

“Though it is not allowed that one should hold other peoples voter registration card, if one has given it to him then it would be a different matter. The case is still before police and we cannot jeopardise the investigations ,” Maroba said.

He stressed that they had warned politicians and the public several times that they are not allowed to be in possession or hold other people’s voter registration cards.  He said it is an offence that one can be jailed for. Gaborone South constituency is likely going to go for a re-run if the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) candidate appeal succeeds. UDC candidate Murray Dipate  did not accept the results.
