The crowd had waited in anticipation for Dan Tshanda and his band, after a series of performances by local groups earlier. However, just when the band was preparing the sound, aggressive blew in from the west, filled the space with red sand. The people there were forced to run for cover but just when the powerful wind stopped, the rain poured down.

With the instruments soaked in water and the stage in a mess, Tshanda announced that he was forced to use a CD.

The fans obeyed as the giant musician gave them songs from his latest release Delele. He brought the kind of excitement that the audience yearned.

Local acts such as Eskimos, Scavenger, Malakisata, Makau and Mafitlhakosi performed before Splash. Despite not receiving cheers as loud as those heard for Tshanda and his dancers, the local groups did put on sterling performances.

Scavenga’s Afro-pop tunes coupled with the beautiful choreography in his dance routines made him an electric performer on the day.

Kwaito outfit Eskimos brought back old memories when they performed songs from their debut album. They tipped the scales when they belted tunes like the popular, My Baby.

Hot tracks such as Skim Same and Tsotsi clearly reminded the crowd of the boys’ old magic and how their mentor Vee impacted on their growth as musicians. However, the response was still lukewarm.

Musicians-cum-clowns Makau, pulled a surprise act with a BDP hip hop praise song. In the song, they appealed for voters to vote for Ntuane, while “requesting” funding from Botswana Democratic Party powerhouse Satar Dada, to help them relieve themselves of their debts.
