Among those who will be exercising their right to vote is Motsumi Lekone, a local quad bike rider who has taken part in the annual 1000 Desert Race on many occasions.  Lekone has also competed in other events such as the Khawa Bike race where he emerged victorious. “Casting a vote is a fundamental right of every citizen and I will be among those that will exercise this right.

I have registered in the Bonnington South constituency. I voted in the same constituency in the last general elections,” he said. Bonnington South is one of the highly contested constituencies in the country. It pits the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) represented by Abby Chengeta, Botsalo Ntuane of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) and Ndaba Gaolatlhe of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC).

In Mogobane, Extension Gunners’ exciting left back, Katlego ‘Sissoko’ Koobake will cast his vote tomorrow. Mogobane falls under Ramotswa constituency where Roger Mphafe (UDC), Odirile Motlhale (BDP) and Samuel Rantuana (BCP) will be contesting. Botswana Premier League (BPL) took a decision recently not to stage any soccer activity this weekend to allow players and officials to exercise their right to vote.   Ntebo Maplanka, Botswana Netball Association (BONA) public relations officer will be in Mochudi to exercise her constitutional right. “Voting is a basic human right for all to ensure that one’s voice is heard.

It is through voting that one could advocate for improved services, improved economy as well as better living conditions and a better future for all Batswana,” she said. Maplanka explained that BONA uses social media to encourage its members to exercise their democratic right and vote.

Botswana Chess Federation (BCF) spokesperson, Keenese Katisenge will be in her home village tomorrow to cast her vote. She will be voting in Maun West constituency.

Katisenge explained that she grew up in a family that acknowledges the importance of voting and as soon as they reached the voting age, their parents encouraged them to vote.
