The money that will be used to pay referees has been banked in the First Division North League committee account.

Olopeng said the referees have been allocated P145,000 by the league sponsor.

“I have not personally checked the money but I am aware that the money for the referees has been credited to the committee account.

We are only waiting to receive money for administration of the league but I am confident it will be credited in a few days. I am not privy to the amount that will be allocated for administration purposes at the moment.

The league will resume after the elections unless otherwise,” Olopeng said.

Great North Tigers (GNT) chairman, Thebeetsile Motswaeng and his Tonota FC counterpart, Bontshetse Maokaneng confirmed receiving the P50,000 grant from Debswana. The league had to be temporarily called off two weeks ago because teams said they could not honour fixtures while waiting for the grants.

Referees also complained about not being paid which resulted in the halting of the league pending payments of the grants. The delay in releasing money by the sponsor was reportedly due to certain payment procedures that had to be followed at Debswana.

Last season, the teams were given P12,000 in three installments. This season, teams opted for a once off P50,000 payment, saying that it is hard to budget with the installments.
