According to Moloto, the cycling event would begin at 7:00 am on Sunday at Majestic Five Hotel, along the Martins Drift Road and back to the same hotel inPalapye.

The charity event which started in 2010, will be hosted by Morupule Cycling Club and is intended to raise funds for charity as well as promoting sport and healthy living.

In an interview, Moloto said Stanbic Bank Botswana would this year be the main sponsor of the annual cycle challenge.

“The event has many sponsors that I am not yet ready to reveal now because some of them are still to be confirmed. But what I can tell you now is that Stanbic Bank Botswana will this year be the main sponsors of the event once more,” confirmed Moloto. Moloto also explained that, through the cycle challenge which is a charity initiative, Morupule had donated events proceeds of P260, 000 to different beneficiaries since it started in 2010.

She said that people who benefitted from the cycle challenge since 2010 included House of Hope in Palapye, SOS Serowe, Thomadithotse ward in Palapye, David Tshenyego Trust, Khama 111 Memorial Museum and Sehunou Primary School in Serowe.

She also explained that they opted not to do a sponsored walk but rather cycling for uniqueness and to attract more sponsors.

“We chose to do cycling rather than the walk because we wanted to be unique and try something new.

“In fact we had done the walk before so we realised that it was not working for us, it was like the sponsors were not that interested as compared to when we do cycling,”

“Even the attendance of workers was limited, it seemed like the walk was outdated. So we think sponsors are responding well to cycling as compared to the walk,” explained Moloto.

She added that there would be a 100km, 50km and 30km charity cycling challenge, which attracts both men and women.

She said the event had over the years brought together multitudes of people from different cycling clubs across Botswana and from beyond the borders.  She therefore, encouraged cyclists to do such even in this year’s challenge because together they would be aiming at racing for charity.
