With only a month remaining, PASSOBO is battling to secure funding for the competition meant for physically challenged athletes. PASSOBO secretary general, Titus Kebuileng told Mmegi Sport yesterday they wonder why it is difficult for them to secure sponsorship.

He said they have approached several companies seeking financial assistance with no success. They have submitted a proposal to a certain commercial bank, which has since promised to invite PASSOBO for a meeting to discuss the matter.

Kebuileng stated that they need about P200,000 to host the games which will draw athletes from all 37 PASSOBO affiliates across the country.

“We need the funds for accommodation, food and other logistics. We did not have the games last year because the association had some problems,” he said.

He pointed out that they are working round the clock to make sure that the games are hosted. Kebuileng called on companies and individuals to come forward and assist PASSOBO. He said the competition would be divided into various categories such as the visually impaired and those with hearing challenges. He said PASSOBO would be engaging coaches from centres that admit disabled athletes to be officials during the games.

Kebuileng said the games are meant to give their members a chance to showcase the talent they possess.

He said being physically challenged does not mean that an individual is unable to compete. He stated that some of the athletes who will be participating are youngsters who are being groomed for the future. He said this can only be possible if there is support from all stakeholders.
