It is set to build capacity while elevating stand-up comedy to mainstream level in the country’s entertainment sector.

The comedy tour will hit seven locations; starting off in Gaborone on October 31, 2014 at Cresta President Hotel where Mawee will also be shooting his One Man DVD.

The tour will then move on to Orapa on November 1.  The next show will be in Lobatse on November 7, followed by Selebi Phikwe on November 8 at Cresta Bosele Hotel. The Mahalapye show will be held at Ozone on November 9, and the Grand Finale is scheduled for November 28 and 29.

The tour will feature workshops for upcoming comedians who are interested in sharpening their comedic skills and event organising repertoire.

The organiser hopes the workshops will attract at least three female comedians each.

This will help to build a pool of female comics around the country.

“There is still a huge gap left for female comics to fill in Botswana, and we hope by conducting such workshops, we will encourage more talented female comedians to come up and hone their skills.  We are always ready to help and develop talent, and also give a platform to all upcoming comedians so we build a vibrant industry.

We will also recommend them for performances at international shows,” organiser, Gaolathe Kediemetse of Major Moves Comedy said.

The upcoming tour will feature performances from top comics and participants in the annual President’s Day competitions. The first show features 2014 President’s Day Comedy Champion Oefile ‘Mawee’ Mokgware, Phenyo ‘The Master’ Phaladi, Augustus ‘Legusty’ Mokgadi, Paphani ‘Paps’ Masalila, Kelly ‘Rekunde’ Mophaleng and South African guests Themba ‘Jazzbuda’ Nhlapo and Kagiso ‘Crazy Kay’ Sedumedi.

There will be different headliners for the upcoming shows such as Modiri ‘Mod’ Keseabetswe, Bafana ‘Ribcracker’ Letsatsi, and Odirile Brooks. Other comics that will be featured include; 2013 President’s Day Competition Winner Kabo ‘Order’ Keitheng, Amantle ‘1st Lady’ Mmonadibe, Elijah ‘Ouza’ Gaoakanyediwe, Desire Itani, Sendimbah ‘Stokie’ Shitah and Moshi.

Major Moves Comedy will also be taking local comedians to perform in SA. The two comedians who will be featured at the Rhapsody’s in Pretoria on November 4, 2014 are Brooks from Tsabong and Ouza from Maun. The two will be making their first appearance outside the country and are determined to leave a lasting impression.

Tickets for the All Star Comedy Tour are available online at Webtickets and at respective venues priced from P150 single and P200 double. All the shows start at 8pm except for the Mahalapye show, which starts at 3pm.
