The sky is the limit: BCP president will join other presidential candidates in the skies

The BCP is targeting to win 29 constituencies and so far they have toured 54 villages. Mmegi has learnt that the BCP spent over P200,000 to hire the helicopter for two days.

The BCP president Dumelang Saleshando confirmed that the helicopter which would be branded with their party colours, was hired from a South African company.

“We are going to use it for the remaining days of elections. I do not have many details. You can ask about the villages that we will tour from my office,” Dumelang said.

Other charges include paying for the maintenance of the pilot in terms of accommodation, food, levy associated with landing and aviation facilities used by the chopper. “When you put in maintenance of the other occupants of the helicopter being Dumelang and other people he is travelling with, plus branding the whole may reach between P400,000.  This includes security,” a source said.

The BCP president will go to strategic constituencies such as Kanye, Lobatse, Ramotswa, Gaba-Mmankgodi, Mochudi, Gaborone areas, Tswapong, Palapye, Selebi-Phikwe, Bobonong, Masunga and amongst others.

Meanwhile the UDC has hired a helicopter for the whole week and it is alleged that they spent more than P500,000. The helicopter seats only four passengers, including the pilot, and was unveiled over the weekend.

However, the BDP spends less since it uses Botswana Defence Force helicopters and they are likely to use them again to do their final campaign in areas where they feel they might lose.
