Speaking to Mmegi yesterday, BPS spokesperson Christopher Mbulawa, said that with less than two days to go, the police are ready and have been so for the last two years.

“We are prepared for any challenges that may arise on the day.

“We are ready and we intensified our readiness two years back,“ he said. Asked about some of the challenges they faced in the past general elections, Mbulawa said that there were no major ones and that BPS is looking forward to another successful run in policing election day.

Mbulawa added: “We had no major problems in the last general elections, this year the polling stations have increased so we have also increased our manpower on the ground.”

Last week, BPS senior management met to discuss issues of readiness for the upcoming general elections. During the meeting, commissioner of police, Keabetswe Makgophe, said that the purpose of the gathering was to check the level at which police officers deployed at various polling stations were ready to execute their duties diligently.

Meanwhile, members of the police force were given a chance to cast their vote last weekend.  The general elections are slated for October 24, 2014.
