“Gomolemo was my closest friend and I like what he liked and hate what he hated. Even if I am not a politician but I urge you to look forward at all times and not to be disrupted by negative statements by people.” Motswaledi said.

He also thanked the UDC for remembering that it had parentage.

“It is important to take care of your parents so blessings may come your way. In that regard, you must know I am one of your elders,” he said to the applause of the audience.

Ra-Gomolemo as the old man is also known, also took the opportunity to thank the UDC for continuing his son’s legacy by sponsoring some football teams that Motswaledi patronised.

“I understand the UDC will keep honouring these teams every year. This is a good initiative, which will ensure that Gomolemo’s name lives on,” he said

He explained his son used to share with him the problems and successes of his party and that was why he he found it fit to attend the UDC event to give the party a word of encouragement.

Meanwhile UDC president Duma  Boko asked the residents of Gaborone central to vote for their candidate Phenyo Butale on Friday.

He said Batswana should punish the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) for refusing to be part of opposition cooperation.

“Batswana are eager for change and they want parties that can cooperate to take out the government. I do not see why differences on how constituencies should be distributed can make a party to pull out from the cooperation.

A leader is supposed to guide his party members on serious matters,” Boko said.
