The teenager Lapologang Moraladi of Pitshane is nursing a leg injury after she was shot in the high along the Kgomokasitwa road after they were allegedly chased by four police cars and a private one.

The victim’s mother, Katherine Moraladi said she was still in shock that her daughter almost died because of police brutality and was later dragged to Ramatlabama Police Station where she spent hours without medical attention.

She told The Monitor that they are seeking answers from the police after they shot and injured her daughter and later dumped her at Goodhope Hospital where she had to pick her up. “I am still shocked that the police shot my daughter, dumped her at the hospital after hours and they don’t even tell me why she was caught in the crossfire”, she said.

The mother says on Saturday the police only came to her homestead because she called them and that they didn’t even bring anything to explain why her daughter was shot, held in custody for close to six hours without medical attention and forced to give a statement while being threatened.

She said the police told her that they wouldn’t be able to divulge further information as the incident was still under investigation. Moraladi said on Friday afternoon she received a call from her daughter telling her that the police shot her and that she was at GoodHope hospital. “I arrived in GoodHope and we waited for the police but they never came and that’s when I took my child home”, she narrated.

Meanwhile efforts to reach the Ramatlabama Police Station for comment on the matter were futile, as the Station Commander was said to be on leave while the Station Officer claimed ignorance of the matter. He told The Monitor that he was also off duty as he had to go and cast his vote.
