Fighters made their intentions clear as early as the first whistle, attacking their opponents from the onset. Sharps however were able to withstand the pressure and were awarded a set piece in the eighth minute but Ofentse Chitutu was unable to capitalise.

Ntebogang tried to break the stalemate with a long-range shot in the 15th minute but the ball went over the crossbar.

Fighters’ midfield looked intact and their distribution was brilliant on the day. Kabo Ngongorego made a good run on the left and delivered a good ball in the box but his team-mates failed to bury the chance.

The second half started on a high note with both sides pushing for goal. Fighters goalkeeper, Botlhe Moralo was called into action in the 52nd minute but did well to save Kgositsile’s strike. Fighters goal arrived in the 57th minute through Ntebogang. Sharps pushed numbers forward, but Fighters managed to protect their lead. Speaking to Monitor Sport after the match, Fighters’ assistant coach, Mpho Mabogo said he was happy with the victory and admitted the ganme was tough for his team. He said teams up their preparations whenever they were to play Fighters.

He said he is happy to be working with former Zebras coach, Stanley Tshosane.  For his part, Sharps coach, Wilfred Mahaja said they will have to work on attack if they are to do well in the league.

He said they created too many chances, but fail to utilise them.
