BBA public relations officer, James Kalebwe told Mmegi Sport the association is facing a huge challenge of lack of sponsors. He said the challenge is ernomous to the extent that basketball clubs are self-sponsored and Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) funds the national team.

He further mentioned that at the moment the BBA has a basketball court that is still under construction and they are sourcing for funds that can help them to complete the construction.

A number of BBA league games are played at the University of Botswana (UB) courts.

Kalebwe stated that a number of long-term potential sponsors attended the recently held basketball All Star event that was organised by BBA and they were greatly impressed by the standardof play.

He also stated that the event had been organised as a way of creating basketball awareness and making the sport grow. The two-day event was attended by a huge number of people.

BBA has two leagues, one for men and the other for women and a few games are left for the league to finish.

The men’s league has 11 teams while women’s league has only five teams.

The league comprises of seasoned players such as Churchill Barrows who was once linked with Angolan club Athletico Sportif Avecio and Zimbabwean club Cameo.
