The race is on: Women's action is heating up as it enters week five

Ahead of the fifth league matches this weekend, UB Kicks sit on position six, while their opponents Sisters are at the log tail-end and will be going into this game nursing pains after losing to South Eastern Girls 2-1 and Double Action 13-0 respectively last weekend.

Despite these losses, both teams’ coaches are optimistic that they are going to emerge victorious tomorrow as they are ready for action.

Kicks manager, Phenyo Gabolekane said for his team, this is a must win game. “My team is ready for tomorrow’s action, we know this is a must win game and we are going to win it to move from position six to the top four,” said the coach.

Gabolekane said they lost to South Eastern Girls last week due to injuries, which forced many of his players out of the game. However most of the players are available for tomorrow’s clash.

‘We know Big Sisters can be stubborn; therefore we are not going to undermine them since we really need maximum points. We don’t only want to win against Sisters, but challenging for a top finish at the end of the season,” he said.

Sisters on the other hand are more than determined to win this encounter to get out from the life threatening position. Their coach Dimakatso Odisitse believes that despite losing the first games, they will collect three points against Kicks tomorrow. He noted that they have been losing games not because they are not playing well or a better side, but because of the players’ absence due to the ongoing school examinations.

“Our team uses students, and they have been away for sometime now as they were busy preparing for the examinations and as we speak they are in the middle of the tests, hence it is imperative to give them chance to put more effort in their school work,” explained Odisitse.

The coach emphasised that the team has been boosted by the arrival of other players who have been held up by their employers and is hopeful that his line up will be competitive.
