On August 25, 2014, the representatives of dismissed workers, Serwalo Tirelo and Oboile Modiidi wrote a letter to the Senior Private Secretary to the President, George Tlhalerwa, requesting a meeting with the president.

Khama was scheduled to meet the concerned former employees in June but he could not make it due to his busy schedule. In a correspondence letter dated October 6, Tlhalerwa informed the desperate dismissed workers that their request was unsuccessful. He further informed them that the Office of the President had considered various options and advice but nothing could be done to assist them.

Some of these employees had been given approval to seek re-employment by the then Director of Public Service Management, Festinah Bakwena.

Sbrana Psychiatrist Hospital superintendent Mpho Thula wrote a letter challenging this dismissal. The letter, addressed to the Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Dr Kolaatlamo Malefho, revealed that Bakwena had given Kgosietsile Ramogale approval to seek re-employment. Ramogale was employed as an occupational therapy assistant (welder and fabrication) at Sbrana Psychiatrist Hospital.

“It, however, appears that he did not get access to the letter detailing such authority until now, hence he was never considered for re-employment. His post was never filled although the hospital was in dire need of someone in this position.”

“The workshop he was managing to rehabilitate patients (welding and fabrication) has been closed since his dismissal in 2011. Our establishment printout for June 2013 shows that an individual named Mangondo Manonga Samuel, who is unknown to our facility is holding the position originally occupied by Mr Ramogale,” wrote Thula.

Thula recommended that Ramogale be re-employed and that the person occupying the post be removed as he was wrongly placed.
