It is alleged on March 27, 2014 at Majakane ward in Thankane the duo were found in unlawful possession of dagga.

Acting on a tip off that the two were selling the illegal drug, police raided their house and indeed found the dagga.

The court heard that Mabesi took a black plastic bag and affirmed that it is indeed dagga.

On June 14, the sample was taken to the forensic laboratory for tests. The results confirmed that the substance was a dagga herb, which weighed 95.6 grams.

Mabesi agreed to the facts of the case. She further said she sold the drug to make ends meet as her family was ravished by poverty. In mitigation, she pleaded with the court to be lenient when sentencing her because she is the sole caretaker of her paralysed mother.

Mabesi was sentenced to two years imprisonment wholly suspended for three years provided the accused does not commit a similar offence. She was further ordered to pay P4,000 before November 30, failing which, she would serve a further two year term.

The prosecution, led by sub-inspector Edwin Supang asked the court to withdraw charges against the second accused, Lenkopane, as there was no substantial evident that linked him to the crime. Lenkopane walked off a free man.
