The induction workshop, which was held at Masunga Community Hall, was attended by election officers and candidates for both local and central government.

The election officers were taken through relevant electoral sections as well as demonstration of the election process. Principal elections officer, Salini Bafaneli urged candidates and officers to work with each other and be always willing to learn to be able to execute their duties effectively and efficiently.

Bafaneli expressed gratitude for the attendance of election candidates and their input in the deliberations saying for elections to run smoothly they need the input of all stakeholders.

Earlier during his welcome remarks, returning officer for Tati West constituency, Rapetse Mathumo said, elections by nature are very sensitive and contentious undertaking, which have to be managed effectively, and conducted all the seriousness.

Mathumo said it was critical for all election officials to be competent in the electoral procedures and processes to eliminate committing mistakes in the executions of their assigned duties.

“Elections are very sensitive and need to be handled with care. They are important and are the ones, which made Botswana what it is.

No candidate would want to lose unfairly because electoral laws were not followed accordingly and therefore election’s handling calls for zero mistakes,” he said.
