The vast area, distinctive for its difficult terrain, is served by one officer based in Gantsi North constituency who also travels to Gantsi South on a weekly basis to check and address issues.

Yesterday, IEC Principal Elections Officer, George Diswai said already polling induction has been conducted for the different political parties in the area.

“We have had training for poll staff across all government sectors and trained all counting and polling agents,” he said.

He further said there will be early poll elections for Police officers who will be on duty on election day. He also said his office is inundated with telephone calls from voters who basically call to enquire about their names not appearing on the voters’ roll and why their names have been rejected and want to know the reasons.

“One other thing was transport logistics. We had shortage of vehicles, but that was sorted out and all polling officers have been given a go-ahead to use their private vehicles and will be reimbursed,” he added.

More than 23, 000 people have registered to vote in this year’s general elections in Gantsi constituency with 32 polling stations in Gantsi South while Gantsi North has 30.

“There are 12 counting stations in Gantsi North and 10 in Gantsi South including Parliamentary counting centres,” he confirmed.
