The two hope their joint effort would entice particularly young people to exercise their democratic right to vote. Black Money Makers and the BNYC would on a one-day gig themed One Youth, One Vote stage performances from the stable at the Francistown stadium on Friday.

Over the years, the voting process in Botswana has been characterised by voter apathy with many young Batswana arguing that it is not necessary for them to participate because nothing changes. This is despite the fact that the young people of this country are in the forefront complaining about the leadership.

Some young people have been pointing an accusing finger at the government for the high unemployment statistics bedevilling the country. Motivated by the development, Black Money Makers manager Johnson Otsilewame, made a proposal to the BNYC to forge a musical partnership aimed at encouraging young people to vote.

“Young people of this country constitute an estimated 60 percent of Botswana’s probable population of 2.1 million.

But most of the young people if not all are not taking part in the voting process,” Otsilewame said. Otsilewame said the gig would feature Vee, a number of artists and radio personalities.

Some of the artists to perform at the show are Thapelo Maleka (MC Maswe), T.H.A.B.O (Thabo Bolokwe) Pearluza (Pearl John) and several disc jockeys.   The show is expected to raise the much-needed awareness amongst youths on the need to vote.

“This is the time for you as a young person to give vent to your anger against the government or appreciate what the administration is doing by voting,” Otsilewame said.

He added that not participating in the voting process would worsen the situation.

He urged youths to go to the polls in droves and vote for the government of their choice.
