Ebola threatens Sevens trip to Nigeria

The team is supposed to tour Nigeria at the end of October. Botswana Rugby Union (BRU) president, Elijah Jones said they have been invited by Nigeria Rugby Federation (NRF) for a Sevens tournament in Lagos from October 31 to November 1.

Jones said they have since asked for advice from the Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) on whether they should travel or not. He noted that the response from BNSC would decide on the way forward.

While waiting for the response, Jones said the team has been preparing well.  The team took part in the northern region Sevens in South Africa as part of preparations for the Nigeria tour.

The team will play against South Africa’s Leopards this weekend in Potchefstroom.

He said the BNSC has promised to assist with travel arrangements for the South Africa trip.

Meanwhile, The Vultures have upped their preparations for the 2015 Africa Cup 1B tournament. Botswana will compete in the much tougher group after finishing second in the same tournament that was played in Botswana in June. The tournament was won by Tunisia.

The venue for the 2015 tournament has not been decided.  As part of the preparations, the Vultures played against Leopards B teams and won the match 17-10 a fortnight ago. Jones said both the Sevens team and the  15s teams face a busy schedule.
