On Friday, Khama flew into Maun accompanied byTsitsi Moremi, the ex-wife of Kgosi Tawana, who was decked out in Domkgrag regalia where Konstantinos Markus and Reaboka Mbulawa are contesting on a BDP ticket.  Khama’s team also included his brother and MP Tshekedi Khama and MP Lebonamang Mokalake, both Ministers.

Tsitsi was unveiled to the public at both of the rallies as Kgosi Tawana’s former wife. Speaking in Maun West, Khama told a large gathering of BDP supporters that he is helping take care of Kgosi Tawana’s children. He said Kgosi Tawana is leading a troubled life. Khama further explained that Kgosi Tawana always comes to him to seek help adding that at the moment he is helping to raise Tawana’s children who include Leatile Moremi who is the heir to the Batawana throne.

Khama said however, Tawana always attacks him in public forums. He announced  that he had misgivings about Tawana becoming an MP back in 2009 but allowed him hoping that he would change but all in vain. He told the gathering that his words should not be understood as inciting hatred against Kgosi Tawana.

“I am not here to encourage you to hate your chief but to tell you that he is not fit for political office. While agreeing that Tawana like him (Khama) has every right to leave bogosi and join politics, Khama said Tawana is disrespectful of his tribe and incapable of political leadership.

The two rallies were emotionally charged with speakers saying they were hitting back because Tawana always insults and disrespect President Khama. BDP activist in Serowe Keneilwe Monageng declared in Maun West “they have been insulting our party president and we are now paying back”.  BDP campaign manager Alec Seametso fired most salvos  calling Tawana an irresponsible tribal leader who has failed in the family and business fronts.

He said Tawana failed to keep a family as he is divorcing adding that he once took a CEDA loan to start a business but he failed at that as well.  He called on the people of Ngamiland to emulate what happened in Goo-Ngwaketsi saying when their chief went into opposition politics they denied him the vote. Seametso said Tawana’s main undoing was leaving BDP and joining opposition politics. Another speaker in Maun West, Abel Molelo, continued the onslaught against Tawana calling him a drunkard who gatecrushes into stadiums.

Seametso also branded UDC a bunch of crooks with connections to people outside Botswana who are also crooks. He said the BCP bus which has been transversing the country on campaigns is nothing but an alcohol bar saying it has a fridge full of alcohol from which the BCP activists intoxicate themselves.

In Maun East and West, Lands Minister Lebonamang explained the contentious issue regarding the ownership of the Moremi Game Reserve. He said while it is true that the reserve was formed by the Batawana under the now defunct Fauna Conservation Society issues of financial mismanagement led the local authorities and morafe to agree that the park be transferred to government. He said the then Kgosi, Letsholathebe Moremi and morafe agreed to the idea of the government taking control of the park.

Mokalake was reacting to the recent issues in which the tribe, through Kgosi Tawana  who is also the Batawana paramount Chief want the government to return the ownership of the park so that the tribe can be paid royalties for land usage of the park. The proposal said at the time the park reverted to government in 1979 it was formed in 1962 by the tribe; the understanding was that government was taking it temporarily. Mokalake said Tawana wants to use the tribe to meet his personal interest as he alleges that the Chiefs Island inside the Moremi game reserve is his personal land.

Moremi has made it clear that if he is voted his mandate would be forcing government to return the world renowned park so that the poverty stricken people in Ngamiland could benefit from the natural resources in this area.

Kgosi Tawana Responds (via Facebook, as Marco Steve)

I’m really fine, I’m happy. I did a little victory jump as soon as I heard my ex-wife was being introduced at the first of the two BDP rallies in Maun on Friday.

I hated the idea of Ian as Godfather of my children and it was a big elephant in my marriage, I really felt deceived by my ex-wife in the whole matter.

My biggest problem was always going to be in explaining it to my children, my boy does ask “why do you and my godfather hate each other like this?” My answer has always been succinctly delivered, Ian is evil! Ian can lie to you about a fact that you both know and he expects you to defer to authority and accept the lie even where he knows that YOU know he is lying. He wants credit where he knows YOU know he deserves non.

The only route to survive with Ian is to massage and caress his narcissism. I feel the weight off my shoulders because as my son is now going to have to grow to understand issues, this one is going to confront him, I no longer have to strain my brain matter trying to tell everybody who Ian really is! everyone now knows his mind map! he throws everything at making his ego central, I do not know what happened in Ian’s upbringing but something definitely did.
