In the ensuing struggle at Tshwaragano Primary School in Old Naledi where the meal was prepared and served, all the food fell on the ground. This did not deter the hungry youngsters and elderly supporters of Mthinkhulu. Some of the school going pupils and elders were seen picking up the food from the ground to have a taste.

Some went for the three big pots to salvage the little that was left inside. One elderly supporter was heard saying: “Waitse batho ba Zola le tlhabisa ditlhong”, meaning that people of Zola are a disgrace. Zola is a popular name referring to Old Naledi. In this melee the tables in one of the classrooms that was turned into a serving point, were left turned upside down and vandalized.

In a nearby classroom, the servers had no choice but to lock themselves inside to save themselves from the crazy gang. The violent scramble for food was not what they had expected from the supporters who had all been patient and jubilantly dancing under the sizzling hot sun.

Mthinkhulu, the self styled ‘Mfana wa Kasi’ (Boy from the neighbourhood) was late evening launched alongside his council candidates at the popular Diswiinking open grounds.

The council candidates are Robert Kediseng (Selemela ward), Chapman Sentshwantsho (Bontleng ward, Tshepo Makgasa (Naledi South) and Dintlafatso Pilane of Babusi ward. The launch began with a motorcade parade which commenced at Thebe Primary School and ended at Diswinking grounds.

Mthinkhulu who is also a local lawyer will lock horns during general elections with Murray Dipate of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC), Kagiso Molatlhegi of the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) and Akanyang Magama of the Botswana Congress Party (BCP).

Before registering as an independent candidate, Mthinkhulu has been a member of the Botswana National Front (BNF), one of the affiliates of the UDC and lost primary elections to Dipate.
