Barrows has been to Angola twice this year in search of a lucrative deal with one of the oil rich country’s topflight clubs.

His first attempt early this year ended unsuccessfully after the club recommended he put on some weight before returning for another trial in September.  And after impressing this time around, the club demanded he stay on for the rest of their pre-season, something which would have affected his school programme.

Barrows explained to Monitor Sport: “It did not work out because they were demanding I remain until the end of the pre-season and participate with team activities before we conclude any contractual agreement. However, I could not take the risk of dropping out of school before we have a contractual relationship.”

The player’s agent, Fernando Muhongo, who arranged the trial, believes so much in the player.

Barrows has since informed his agent and the club that should they require his services he would be willing to return.

“We ended things amicably with ASA and my professional career will have to be kept on hold until I finish school or some other situation arises.”

Barrows is a law student at the University of Botswana and has previously said should a solid offer arise, he will move and finish off his studies in Angola.

Angola has the most rewarding basketball league in the region with players earning similar salaries as South African average football clubs.

Muhongo stated that the Angola League is presently on a break and resumes later this month.

The club had hoped to look at Barrows during their final pre-season preparations and make a decision on whether to sign the hardworking 22-year-old.

The ambitious ace has previously had a stint outside the country when he featured for Harare side, Cameo in Zimbabwe.

The Dolphins shooting guard has three senior national team caps, having also turned out for the BISA Under-17 national team thrice. He has played for the national Under-20 team.
