He said this yesterday in Mankgodi at a Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) star rally for Parliamentary hopeful, Lesedi Mmusi.  Khama said his undivided confidence was boosted by the increased numbers of opposition members who had defected to the ruling party since his recent visits to different constituencies around the country. “I am confident we will win. Nna ga kea lapa, santse ke siame. Ke lepako,” he said.

Khama further said they had received over 3,000 defected members from the opposition.

“We have received with open arms a total of 133 members from my recent visit to Takatokwane, 120 in Kanye, 2,000 in Ngwaketse East and 235 members in Kgalagadi, to mention a few,” he said.

Khama also urged registered residents to vote both BDP council and parliamentary candidates. He explained that in the past election, most voters had voted in large numbers for BDP councilors but voted for an opposition parliamentary candidate.

Khama vowed to residents that should BDP remain in power, they would build the long promised clinic in the village. He said they had not been able to build it before because the economic recession of the past few years. He said they had several developments in the pipeline since the economic situation had improved.

The rally would not be complete without the president’s punch lines, which have become synonymous with the silly season. Khama scoffed Lobatse parliamentary hopeful for the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) Nehemiah Modubule, labelling him an expired candidate. ‘Go na le mathata ko Lobatse, but we have to rectify that.

Re tshwanetse ra ntsha motho o expirileng oo Modubule,’ he said, to the rousing applause of his party followers.
