The quartet cited sharp differences with other members as reason for leaving the karate body.

Reikeletseng told Mmegi Sport yesterday that BOKA has not informed BNSC about its challenges. He said it was unfortunate that the council learnt about BOKA resignations through the media.

He added that it was disappointing for the matter to be in the public domain before mediation is sought. He said BNSC has always advised affiliates to approach it for mediation when they have problems before exposing them to the public. Reikeletseng pointed out that all sporting codes have elders such as former presidents or chief instructors in the case of BOKA, who can be approached for advise.

“Karate is a discipline sport and it is one of those codes that are performing well in international games. It brings glory to the country. This kind of things have the potential to affect that display,” said a disappointed Reikeletseng. He said the issue can only be resolved through the guidance of the BOKA constitution and if it is not clear, BNSC is there to assist.

Committee members who quit are Sensei Andrew Dobolo (public relations officer), Sempai Lere Basupang (vice president-administration), Sempai Kemmonye Setalemotse (vice secretary general), and Sempai Bontle Charles (treasurer). Only three remain in office;  president Tshepo Bathai, vice president-technical, Sensei Chris Ponatshego and secretary general, Sensei Phineas Motseolapile.

Mmegi Sport has leant that BOKA has called a meeting for its affiliates tomorrow (Saturday) at an undisclosed venue. The meeting is meant to map the way forward.

The association constitution allows affiliates to call for fresh elections within 14 days from the day of resignation or co-opt new members into the committee. Efforts to get a comment from president, Bathai was futile as his mobile phone went unanswered.
