The incident occurred over the weekend, just a few days after President Ian Khama held a star rally in Moruakgomo’s constituency.

In an interview with Mmegi, Moruakgomo sounded unshaken by the incident and said that he had parked his car at Oodi and joined his team to do a house-to-house campaign in Matebele village. He said that when he returned he found that the two tyres on the right hand side had been slashed with a sharp instrument.

Further, Moruakgomo said that he only realised this by 7.15 pm when he wanted to drive off to Mochudi together with his council candidate for Oodi/ Matebele, Modise Nambe.  Moruakgomo said that he suspects foulplay but refuted allegations that he suspects his opponents in the opposition.

“Ke morapedi fela motho wa Modimo. Yo o dirileng jaana o tlaa bonwa ke Modimo,” he said. He added that he did not report the matter to the police.
