“He is the head of state and him being a BDP member does not disqualify him from being the President. People tend to forget that the President is duty bound to be accompanied by an entourage including members of the opposition when he happens to address meetings in their respective constituencies. Lesang lefufa because he remains the President,” she said.
Tshireletso added that they are still waiting for the forensic report into the death of the late Gomolemo Motswaledi from the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC). She said they want that report because Batswana have been denied the truth under the pretext that the report is sensitive. “Members of the ruling are attacked and their houses broken into but this is never reported by the media but if happens that opposition members become victims then the ruling party is blamed. Voters you must be awake to this propaganda,” she said, adding Khama, on the other hand wants opposition to tell Batswana what they can offer them (Batswana) other than launching an onslaught on him and his government.
He added that the late opposition leaders were better off compared to the current crop. “We do not kill people and we will never do that. In fact I challenge them to show a person who was killed by the BDP government. I also urge the DIS officials to vote wisely because they can see that opposition hates them,” she said.
On the other hand Khama warned BDP members against complacency and vote to win the constituencies with high margins. “Media and opposition parties reports are not good at all because they are false. The only way to silence them is to thrash them during the general elections,” he said.
He went on to say, “Gatwe ke senya madi fa ke kopana le Batswana. What would be my role then if I cannot meet people? Am I the office president or Gaborone MP? Am I wrong to bring programmes to the less privileged members of the society? I am duty bound to travel across the country as a senior MP,” he said.
President Khama stressed that he will never slumber because he wants to have accomplished his poverty eradication mission by the time he steps down. He praised members of his party for being a peace loving people who wants to see democracy prevailing in the country and added that opposition will never rule.
He said UDC has already shown signs of surrender, BCP failed to field candidates in Molepolole and said the ruling party continues to grow stronger by the day. He said his party welcomed 37 members from the opposition in Selebi-Phikwe East, 64 from Mochudi,52 from Shakawe,143 from Ngamiland, 87 from Tumasera and 60 from Bobirwa among other constituencies. “Let us defeat them, but we should not completely wipe them out because we would become bored without contenders,” he said.
