Mmolotsi has endeared himself to voters over the year and was viewed as a hard worker in the last Parliament which has created an impression that he may earn another five-year term in the National Assembly. The Botswana Congress Party (BCP) candidate Mamela believes that the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) will not make an impact at this year’s general elections in Francistown South. In fact the dynamics do not favour the BDP too according to the BCP firebrand. Instead, Mamela believes that he is the favourite and predicts that the BCP will make a telling impact at the general elections due in a little more than two weeks. Mamela was speaking at a lowly attended BCP rally on Friday late afternoon at Chedu Choga grounds.

“I keep hearing some people saying that Mmolotsi will win the elections, but that is just talk. The numbers and dynamics in the constituency do not favour him at all. Not all the people have moved with Wynter when he left the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) for Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD). The split in the BDP that resulted in the formation of the BMD will benefit the BCP because for us we have been relatively stable in the constituency over the years.

”In fact, Mamela had squabbles with his primary elections competitor Interest David Tawele, but the latter is said to be now actively assisting the BCP in all campaign activities in the constituency. Even the BMD partners in the UDC, Botswana People’s Party (BPP) and the Botswana National Front (BNF) do not have many people who can help Mmolotsi earn a second term in parliament according to Mamela.

At the 2009 general elections the ruling BDP which was then represented by Mmolotsi in Francistown South before he defected, polled 4,024 votes while Mamela representing BCP came second with 3, 546. The BNF and BPP managed a measly 280 and 289 votes respectively. At this year’s general elections Mamela will be up against Mmolotsi and the BDP’s Sylvia Muzila.

Earlier on, at the rally, the BCP Francistown region leader Samuel Moribame shared Mamela’s sentiments adding that Francistown South is one of the constituencies the party has targeted to win, because of favourable dynamics.Moribame also defended the very low attendance at the star rally saying that because it started during working hours when many people could still have been held up at work.
