Guard beat warders

Boys, who came to this game in high spirits after their win against Mogoditshane United two weeks ago, attacked Prisons XI from the first whistle. It was as early as the second minute when Rolling Boys invaded Prisons area in search of an early goal but Ronald Lekoko shot wide.

Rolling Boys could have taken the lead in the 15th minute through Otlantshekela Magowe, but his effort went over the crossbar. He came close again in the 19th minute, but Prisons XI managed to clear. Both teams created numerous scoring opportunities in the first half but were wasteful.

Prisons XI brought in Tadenda Mbikiwa for Nkobi Keatile in the second half to bolster the attack and they started to push forward in numbers in search of a goal. Boys got their goal in the 60th minute through Steve Lochia who capitilised on poor defending by Prisons XI. Prisons pushed forward in search of an equaliser and came close in the 75th minute with Mbikiwa’s shot going narrowly over the bar. He was at it again in the 80th minute, but his effort went wide. Both teams continued to miss chances and Rolling Boys bagged maximum points.

Boys’ coach, Wire Kaelo said the game was tough in the first half but was worried of the many chances they missed. He said his team is yet to jell because they have new players who are still trying to adapt. He said the victory is a motivation going into the next assignment.

Prisons’ Dicker Montwedi said the game was difficult for his players. He said their game plan did not work out, attributing this to lack of experience since most of his players are youngsters. “We are building a new team here and trying to get the right combination and I am happy that we are getting there,” he said.
