The continent averages 51% score under this index, with mighty South Africa ranked 8th with a score of 68.1 Only Mauritius has scored over 80% in safety and rule of law index.
Under the participation and human rights index though, Botswana is rated 8th in Africa with a 73.1% score. South Africa is rated 4th with 74.4%, Namibia 3rd with 75%, while Carbo Verde and Mauritius make the top 2. This index, where Botswana is ranked no.8 is even critical as it looks at fair and free elections, political participation, freedom of expression, freedom of association, civil liberties, among others.
Botswana is also ranked 4th in the sustainable economic opportunity index, with a score of 65.9%, suggesting that there is still a lot to be done in areas such as economic diversification, digital connectivity, air transport, fiscal policy, among others.
Botswana has also scored 80.4% in human development which is an impressive score despite placing the country no.5
South Africa scores 78% in this index.
