I was targeting a bird, says kid after shattering BCP bus

The  BCP’s on going presidential tour was disturbed on Saturday in Francistown when the newly launched tour bus had one of its windows shattered by a juvenile before it was fixed for P3,300. Central Police Station have confirmed that they are investigating a case of malicious damage involving two primary school going boys at the low income location of Monarch in Francistown.

The two are said to have broken a side window of a bus belonging to the BCP which was on a tour in the location on Saturday morning.

Yesterday morning station commander at Central police superintendent Lebalang Maniki would not be drawn into discussing much about the incident saying that investigations are still on. “The suspects in the case are aged 13 and 11 years respectively. It appears the 13-year-old is the one who broke the window using a catapult. He was together with his 11-year-old associate who we are still to determine his exact role in the incident,” Maniki said.

None of the children is in police custody. Yesterday Samuel Moribame the BCP leader in Francistown said that the party suspects that their rivals from the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) in the area could have incited the two kids to launch the attack on the bus. “The two children were part of secluded crowd made up of BDP members at our rally in Monarch moments before the bus was attacked. That is why we believe that some BDP members were behind the attack,” Moribame said. Moribame added that the party is unlikely to take further action after police investigations because the case involves minors. Moribame said that the party forked out P3,300 to repair the broken window.

However, Moribame maintained his initial stance adding that at one point the two children involved in the case were spotted with a BDP candidate.

“When the child was questioned he changed his initial stance that he was targeting a bird and instead admitted he was targeting the bus though he did not give reasons which make us suspicious,” Moribame said.
