UDC in spectacular show

It carried the image of a well planned and expensively organised event. On the backdrop of the visa saga of the UDC president Duma Boko’s Hollywood celebrity friends, Rick Yune and his friend being denied entry into Botswana at the 11th hour, the launch seemed to have gained a lot of sympathy from the misfortune.

The UDC had engaged RMC Company, an events management company to put together a memorable show and they did. The Monitor has learnt that the UDC spent more than P500,000 for the grand launch.

Another highlight of the day was the double decker presidential tour bus which made its entry into the grounds, as the UDC leader Duma Boko alighted from it, to thunderous cheers.

The event was operated by three big generators. There were 15 toilets, four tents for the crowd with two for executive guests.

Security personnel were seen maintaining order, while drones fitted with eight video cameras were also used to document the spectacle.

At Moselewapula Junior Secondary School where lunch was served, the party followers found that already the catering company had prepared their food in take away plates. They did not struggle for food.

At 8:30am the event started with a motorcade that made a statement around town with a massive number of cars and supporters joining in.

In some areas of Bonnington North,  the massive following of the Botswana National Front (BNF) could still be felt as some elderly people came out of their houses carrying old BNF t-shirts while others were holding the key – the symbol of the BNF.

The launch at Chris Hani grounds ended after 10pm with fireworks lighting up the sky, a sign that was interpreted and viewed as an anticipation of victory for the president  and his vice president both of whom are contesting in the two Gaborone West constituencies.
