“Already there has been a change of attitude from the players since the Independence Cup began. I hope winning the cup will help change the fortunes of the team and boost the morale of the players. “The players were even telling me that they endured poor form leading to their Independence

Cup triumph last year, but their form changed for the better after they won the cup. I hope winning the cup will do wonders again for the team this season,” Kowa said.

Kowa used the cup competition to test fringe players.  “I have identified two or three fringe players who I can rope into the first team,” he said. ECCO, once a powerhouse in the Premier League, has been performing poorly in recent months since losing the Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) sponsorship.

Last season, the club, which is yet to register a single victory this round, finished outside the top eight for the first time since winning promotion to the Premier League more than eight years ago. ECCO received P12, 500 for winning the Independence Cup while runners-up TAFIC went home with P7, 500.

The team’s Chamonorwa Madamombe was crowned the best player while the unavailability of records meant there was no top goal scorer award. Meanwhile, Ladies Focus emerged the women’s champions after overcoming Francistown United 5-4 in a penalty shootout. Ladies Focus took home P3000 with the runners-up pocketing P1750. The prizes for the women’s teams were increased on the final day by P500 each. The champions’ Tshepo Motshosi, who on Tuesday emerged the hero for her side after saving a penalty in the finals, was voted the best goalkeeper. Winners of individual award in both the men and women’s category, took home P250 each. The District

Commissioner’s Office also gave the women teams that reached the final P2 000 each.

Francistown Regional Football Association (FRAFA) officials said that they were still to consolidate match reports to see who will be awarded the top goal scorer’s award in both the women and men’s category. The Independence Cup features teams affiliated to the FRAFA. The World Group of Companies sponsors the tournament.
