Kelosiwang received his medal last month after a brilliant performance during a three year Diploma coaching course.

Kelosiwang told Mmegi Sport that he was given an opportunity to take up the training due to collaboration between PGA Botswana and PGA South Africa.

He said he got the award after being adjudged the best among all participants, including those from South Africa.

He said the award forms part of the Botswana Golf Union (BGU) objectives, which will ultimately see an increase in golf participation, and hopefully an investment in coaching. Kelosiwang is the junior development coach at Gaborone Golf Club. To him, it is important for his players to balance schoolwork with golf because that will give them options in life.   “I was able to complete the course due to the support that I got from Derek Musa. He is one person who planted the spirit of volunteering in me. I got guidance from Dr Andrew Hall, David Johnson, Steve Smith and Enoch Mushango,” he said. On gaining the recognition, Kelosiwang was assisted to attend the PGA’s Europe teaching and coaching conference that was held in Scotland a fortnight ago.

Top coaches from around the world attended the conference. “I learnt a lot from the conference and I intend to utilise that in developing golf in Botswana. Scotland has agreed to share with us some of their junior development strategies,” Kelosiwang said.

Mushango who is a member of the BGU executive committee noted that players who are successful in golf in Africa are from South Africa and Zimbabwe. So for a Motswana, Kelosiwang, to receive a top medal is a big achievement. He said the award is an indication that there are some Batswana who know and understand golf.

Mushango said Kelosiwang has been appointed as the coordinator of youth development in Africa, in recognition of the fact that BGU has the best junior development strategy worth emulating.
