MCC manager Graham Monkhouse told Mmegi Sport that BCA was moving in the right direction in terms of developing cricket infrastructure.

He said the progress is proof that BCA is an organised association, which has development at heart. He noted that the facilities at BCA Oval, which include floodlights, a clubhouse and a pitch, were of international standard.

Monkhouse, a former England international, said he was more impressed by the grassroots cricketers he had met in Mogobane and Ramotswa during the coaching clinic the visitors offered.

He said the youngsters exposed great potential and that was an indication that the country will have a strong side in future.

The MCC manager, however, found weaknesses in the current senior and Under-21 sides. He advised that they should work on different techniques especially when batting and learn to be patient when at the crease.

BCA fixtures and publicity secretary Sumod Damodar said they were humbled by the MCC tour, which brought a lot of impact on Botswana cricket.

Damodar said tour exposed players to international levels they never experienced before as they have only played against opposition from he Southern African region, particularly the Under-21 side. Damodar said even though the Under-21 team lost both its matches to MCC it showed great improvement.

“The MCC came with an international specialist umpire who was assisting local umpires,” said Damodar.

MCC will play its final T20 tour match tomorrow against the senior Botswana team at BCA Oval. The match starts at 2:00 pm and admission is free. The English side leaves the country on Sunday.
