Burger revenges after going down

Thatayaone Letsweletse was being cheered and congratulated by a crowd of witnesses after clearing the stubborn burger and its heap of chips, when the burger performed a nasty turn around; bolting out of the man’s stomach and declaring itself the winner again.

With just three minutes to timeout, Thatayaone Letsweletse, swallowed the last morsel of the massive burger.  It was evidently painful swallowing that last piece, maybe even nauseating.

There were excited cheers from the small crowd gathered at Masa Centre. But it was not over yet. The burger challenge comes with a large size bag of chips that have to be finished too in order to be declared a winner if you finish in 30 minutes.

Letsweletse was full.  The crisp fresh potato chips stood between the man and the P6,000 prize money. He quickly sipped some water while looking at the chips. He grabbed all the chips from a small plate with both hands and moulded them into a mash and prepared his last grand swallowing.  It was never going to be easy but it would have been silly to give up.

He added the lettuce to the mash, firmly compressed it before putting it in his mouth.  It was a necessary desperate move.  The chips and lettuce had to go in fast because time was running out.  He painstakingly put all the chips and lettuce in his mouth.  The crowd cheered more.  The plate was clear. The burger meal was finished.  The whole 1.3 kgs of junk food was inside his system in 27 minutes. The crowd gathered around him wildly cheering.  But Letsweletse was not enjoying it.

Amid all the cheers he stood still, without blinking.  He was battling to swallow. It appeared to be a torturous exercise. The waitress with a nametag written Masego, finished the countdown and extended a hand to congratulate him.The waitress’s hand never reached Letsweletse as he suddenly threw up the whole mashed potato chips with lettuce. The vomit, which came with brute force, narrowly missed the waitress and the excited crowd that had formed a circle around him ran for cover.  Another vomit followed and he held it before it could hit the ground.

Then the waitress made a startling announcement that, Letsweletse’s vomit that missed her face, disqualifies him from winning the P6,000.

Letsweletse, holding a messy vomit in his right hand tried to argue but was too nauseated to talk.  He looked distressed and tired.  The crowd tried to argue on his behalf but the waitress did not want to listen.  He was asked to go inside the hotel where he was offered a night’s accommodation at the luxurious hotel.

Letsweletse told them that all he wanted was the money, but Lansmore refused.  Speaking to The Monitor general manager of Espretto, Rupert Ellott, just shook his head and said, “He didn’t win”.

Letsweletse said he was disappointed and angry with the organisers. “They are cheating, I finished the burger. I don’t want hotel accommodation. I was only here for the money,” he said.
